Call Belmount Forum : Arctic Observing and Research for Sustainability Print E-mail

Scadenza 31 Luglio 2014.

EurOCEAN 2014 7-9 October 2014 - Rome Print E-mail
eurOCENA2014Please save the date of October 7-9 in your diaries for the EurOCEAN 2014 conference, which is taking place in Rome.
The EurOCEAN 2014 conference will focus on the grand challenges of marine and maritime research and policy. Bringing together marine scientists from a broad range of disciplines with policymakers, industry and NGOs, a key output of EurOCEAN 2014 will be the development of a common vision on achieving an ecosystem approach to the management of Europe’s marine resources as a fundamental requirement for sustainable Blue Growth.
This common vision will be delivered in the “Rome Declaration”, a consensus view of the EurOCEAN 2014 participants, reflecting that of the European marine science community. Highlighting the importance of Blue Growth and of commercially-driven, problem-oriented research, EurOCEAN 2014 will equally emphasize that a growing and sustainable maritime economy will also require a much greater knowledge and understanding of marine ecosystem functioning and resilience.

Oceans and Human Health Publications by EMB Print E-mail
Oceans and Human Health Publications by EMBThe European Marine Board (EMB) published the position paper: Linking Oceans & Human Health: A Strategic Research Priority for Europe. An output of the European Marine Board working group on Oceans and Human Health, chaired by Prof. Michael Moore (PML, UK), this publication aims to raise the profile of the issue of oceans and human health amongst policy makers, research funders and the scientific community, and promote the establishment of a coherent oceans and human health research framework in Europe.

Building on the messages of EMB Position Paper 19 Linking Oceans and Human Health, a 2-day science-policy workshop, attended by  50 experts from a broad range of disciplines, was held in Cornwall in March 2014. The workshop was co-organized by the European Marine Board and the European Centre for Environment and Human Health and resulted in a unanimous call for a coordinated, transnational and interdisciplinary Oceans and Human Health research programme in Europe. This message is encapsulated in the strategy statement, Message from Bedruthan.
